OPTICIAN

To provide the finest care and services possible in the Eye Care Department. This position consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information. Consistently demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors

Education and Training: High School Graduate or GED required. Graduation from an accredited course of academic study in the equivalent of six months required.

Qualifications: Two years of experience as a dispensing optician required. General knowledge of optical theory, optical practice and national standards for accuracy, and quality required. Effective written and oral communication skills required. Computer experience preferred. One year of hand-on experience in a full service (in-house grinding capable) optical operation involving heavy patient traffic required. Experience in all aspect of dispensing prescription eyewear required. Ability to fit and adjust the completed eyewear to the level expected by the wearer required. Knowledge of production and manufacturing techniques for Rx orders from raw materials required. Knowledge of the applicable system's daily operation requirements required.

Duties: Determines patient's cosmetic needs and price of eyewear according to patient's Health plan. Assists member in the selection of the their eyewear to conform to prescription specifications; advises and recommends the various lens style and any options available that will enhance the member's desired application for their new eyewear, size considerations, and style applications in accordance with the member's personal preference. Inspects and verifies the accuracy of incoming orders from production to assure compliance. Delivers completed order to the intended wearer by bending the frame material using specialized tools and equipment. Verifies exact fitting characteristics of the completed order to comply with prescription requirements and member comfort expectations. Assists in tracking product activity regarding ordering, receiving, usage, and requirements for items for inventory and supplies required for member care and service. Recommends changes in product offerings, inventory levels of products carried, new products, and/or services that the membership is asking about regarding their eyewear. Performs operation of and routine maintenance/repair of precision grinding equipment used to produce in-house eyewear to assure accurate and quality output from laboratory. Monitors and takes corrective action regarding the physical condition of the department by ensuring that frames on display are clean, properly labeled, and properly adjusted; that displays are clean, in good repair, and neat; that mirrors are clean and well lighted, organized, and conductive to smooth patient flow. Performs routine housekeeping functions as necessary to assure compliance to all factors listed. Answers questions regarding visual health care, the use of eyewear, lens and/or frame products available, low vision aids, and other services available within the department. Addresses questions regarding optometry services and appointment availability within the department. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Optometrist Job Opening

OPTOMETRIST

Examines eyes to determine nature and degree of vision problem or eye disease and prescribes corrective lenses or procedures: Examines eyes and performs various tests to determine visual acuity and perception and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities, such as glaucoma and color blindness. Prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids or therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision. Consults with and refers patients to Ophthalmologist or other health care provider if additional medical treatment is determined necessary.

Qualifications: Graduate of a school or college of Optometry accredited by the California State Board of Optometry California Certificate to use Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents Current California license issued by the State Board of Optometry National Provider Identifier (NPI) required as of May 23, 2007 Graduate of a school or college of Optometry accredited by the California State Board of Optometry California Certificate to use Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents Current California license from the State Board of Optometry Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and to apply the principles, theories, practices and techniques of optometric practice, including anatomy, physiology, pathology and mechanics of the human eye , visual processes and detailed knowledge of ocular pharmacology and therapeutics.

Duties: Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. Provides treatment of the visual system within the scope of optometric licensure, including writing prescriptions for ophthalmic spectacles, contact lenses, orthoptics and non optical aids. Provides additional specialized testing and therapy such as contact lens examinations, visual fields (perimetry), tonometry, orthoptics (for therapy of amblyopia, suppression, diplopia, extraocular muscle problems and associated conditions), low vision evaluation (for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with subnormal vision not correctable with standard opthalmic appliances), fluorescein angiography (for diagnosing and documenting ocular conditions) and ocular photography (for photo examination of the external and internal structures of the eye under the direction of Ophthalmology). Maintains compliance with all current organizational, state and federal regulations pertaining to Optometry. Works effectively as team member with other areas of Vision Services which includes Optical Lab and Optical Dispensing. Promotes member satisfaction by ensuring the provision of a high level of quality of service and care. Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel. May perform other duties as required.
